At first, the target audience seemed to be little kids who were amazed with the ideas of Santa Claus and elves, but I figured it couldn't be that because little kids don't need and probably wouldn't buy Galaxy Gears. Instead, I think the ad is targeting teenagers who want the next big thing. It makes Santa seem a little bit like a joke and more like an advertiser, appealing to teens who no longer regard Santa the way little kids do.
At the end of the commercial, it says, "The next big thing is here." This uses the technique avant garde. Sicne is says that the product is the next big thing, it makes it seem like no one really knows about it yet, and people who do have one will be cool. It makes it seem like people who own this product are one step ahead of others and are trend-setters.
The scene really popped out with the excessive use of Christmas colors like red, green, and white. This made it seem like it was a really happy time. It was all set in a dark place, making the colors and lights pop out more against the black background. The Christmasy colors do pop out against the black, but it's the blue that pops out against the Christmas colors. The blue is from the Galaxy Gear, drawing attention from its bright blue color and making the audience focus on it.
The music is really loud and lively. This adds a sort of fun, party feel to it. Even though it may be a party between Santa and his elves, it still makes the Galaxy Gear seem cool.
I think this ad is effective because it lists all the features of the Samsung Galaxy Gear but also makes it seem cool. The commercial itself seems lively and fun and grabs viewers' attention.
This commercial is very cool. I do agree that it probably targets teenagers because this product is more interesting to teenagers since they can understand what it actually does. It does make it seem that the watch made the show become a fun party with loud music. This commercial is very effective because it makes me want to go buy this watch and it also makes people think that if they buy this watch they will become part of a cool group or just become popular. By the way your blog was written very well.
ReplyDeleteI remember seeing this commercial and thinking that this would be a good media blog, but good thing I didn't do it. :)
ReplyDeleteAnyways, what I thought of when I saw this commercial is that it sort of reminded me of how Apple does they product announcements. They have the creator give a long presentation about the product and then there's feedback. The way Samsung did this commercial seemed to me like an attempt to smack Apple in that face saying, "we invented this before you!"'
Also, using bright Christmas colors grabs the viewer's attention. I agree with you that the target audience is teenagers as well because the device is something that would make teens want to use it. it has features that satisfy what teens want right now. It is also presented in a way that would get teenager pumped for the product. Samsung also sneakily got their other products in the commercial. it was like product placement for their own products...
I liked this commercial. At first i thought it was going to talk about a new phone, but when i saw the Samsung Galaxy gear i was surprised. It makes it seem like Santa is one of those motivational speaker like people who is also trying to sell something. He might be another Billy Mays with how enthusiastic he is. It makes me want to find out more about this product, but i wonder how realistic it is. Google came out with Google glasses, but i don't think it was all that successful.
